(Written by Jason Allen)
The man who threw it all away
For a carriage on a slow train
To find out if his soul would stay
Regret to inform you...
I am he
It was me
The boy who jumped into the river
Swam the lake yet can't forgive her
Lost in search of saintly sinners
Sorry to say that
I am he
That was me
The ripples on the pond last June
The perfect circle harvest moon
The sound in someone else's room
In case you didn't notice
It was me
I am he
So every time you pass this way
Whatever Godforsaken day
Has weathered you like time's escape
If someone's still there then
The man who threw it all away
For a carriage on a slow, slow train
Not a marriage or a family
I'm sorry to say that
This is me
Something freed my mind

"This began life as an instrumental called 'The Glebe', which is a little wood near my home. I went there one sunny winter afternoon and spent an hour thinking, just me and my soul... The words were written the next day, separately, almost as a poem. When it came to finishing 'The Glebe' I rediscovered the words and they happened to fit the tune instantly."
