Chances R >> Got The People
(Jason Allen - 1993)

Fixed a smile into the sky
Faced the sun, we all know why
Take a look but never quite
The fear inside of me

Found another on the way
Ever in these changing days
I held the one that I could take
So did you ever see my face?

Got the people, got the light
Stole the airwaves, stole the night
Got the motion, move away
Gained emotion on the way
Everyone can see
I've got the people here with me

Beauty comes from all these years
I've lost the cause of all my fears
I hold you now I have you here
I'll never need the next

She held me near, somewhere near
It all appeared from out of smiling skies
Everyone can see
I've got the people here with me

Got the people, got the lights on
Got a handful of ghosts from a different song
Took a flame to the bridge from the days gone by
Where have I been to?
In a different sky
'Cause I took the low road, took the high road
And that about just suits me fine, so fine

Fixed a smile into the sky
Faced the sun, now I know why
Take a look but never quite
The fear inside of me
Inside of me...

Jason says...
"This was written in a portakabin in Gloucester Road, Bristol by all five of us - a real band effort. We had all been really impressed by Duran Duran's Ordinary World track and this was like a version-by-osmosis of that. I remember laying on the floor writing the words while the guys hammered out the progression. I'd stopped playing guitar to concentrate on singing, trying to make use of the vocal coaching that I was having. I felt like a right old rockstar when we played this live - the whole song seemed to grab people's attention, which, ironically, is what the words are about."

Chances R - Got The People (Live)
